The dawn of the vacuum cleaner and the wheel barrow race occurred in mid eighteenth century France, when, at the height of Louie’s Lunacy , a young aristocrat spied a vagrant doing a handstand whilst simultaneously eating spaghetti through an open window on a busy Parisian street. Intrigued by this, the aristocrat employed the fellow to perform the same task in his own home to save him the task of cleaning up after his bacchanalians. He would of course guide him around the room and soon everyone was doing it. When the happy chappy eventually passed away after sucking up 6 KG of walnuts, the entrepreneurial aristocrat developed and patented a mechanical version.

The world trundled along for a hundred or so years before that nice Mr Dyson revolutionised the industry. Doing away with the bag was only part of his green strategy however. Not only will your Dyson suck up dirty and dirty air but he or she will expel clean Lincolnshire air too.
